About This Position

The VP of Procurement will be an exceptionally capable leader dedicated to building, elevating, and delivering a centralized strategic sourcing and procurement organization for Trinity Services Group (TSG). The successful candidate will be a hands-on, front-line leader with an executive presence to establish immediate credibility with the supply base, the team and throughout the organization. In addition, the VP will have responsibility for food sourcing, food procurement, and influencing the food service menu management.

This leader will be responsible for significant tangible strategic sourcing and procurement category management development and implementation, including material cost reduction (both direct and indirect),lowest cost food offerings for all new business proposals (client RFPs), supplier-managed inventory, supplier performance management, and supplier collaboration. In addition, this exceptional leader will ensure material availability and establish performance metrics consistent with the company's strategic vision. The ideal candidate will develop and implement strategic sourcing initiatives for cost reduction and optimization, maintaining strategic partnerships and leading technological transformation. Efforts will focus on directing the development, communication, and sustainment of an effective sourcing strategy and organizational plan. The position will be responsible for building, refining, and implementing centralized strategic sourcing and category strategies for a direct spend of $250 MM and indirect spend of ~$25 MM for TSG, as well as supporting operations at over 300 facilities.

The VP of Procurement has seven direct reports: Purchasing Director, (two) Senior Purchasing Managers, (three) Purchasing Managers and a Procurement Analyst.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Ensure execution of strategic sourcing fundamentals - for example: category strategies, supplier relationship management (SRM), vendor management, competitive RFPs, supplier consolidation, long-term contracts, etc.
  • Develop "cost up" models across key food categories to define target costs.
  • Develop appropriately aggressive strategic sourcing strategies across all categories, including defining specific roadmaps of actions with milestones.
  • Deliver a scorecard approach that links to the reported financials each month and includes quality, delivery, and contract adherence. Develop a balanced-service, cost-supplier scorecard for incumbents and baseline current performance.
  • Drive significant year-over-year improvements in costs, quality, and delivery of direct and indirect products.
  • Lead negotiations and supply agreements that are broadly strategic - balancing total delivered cost, inventory, supplier lead times, etc.
  • Re-source products that problem vendors supply (i.e., performance issues, quality issues).
  • Develop dual sourcing capabilities to drive supply continuity and competition in supply base.
  • Product life cycle management inclusive of vendor menu management and new product introduction as directed by sales.
  • Evaluate and continuously improve sourcing tools, including data analytics.
  • Experienced with category management and 7-step (or equivalent) strategic sourcing processes in various food ingredient and CPG categories.
  • Develop and manage relationships with key suppliers ensuring they meet quality and service requirements while maintaining competitive prices.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of quality, cost, and delivery and measurement of supplier improvements in these areas.
  • Deploy a robust supplier performance management process, including quality/safety, delivery, and contract compliance.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, providing regular updates to senior leaders.
  • High involvement in new product selection and strategic relationship management.
  • Data-driven and analytical - able to build a KPI metrics-driven scorecard organization.
  • Have strong "outside the box" thinking and leadership with a history of success in intelligently pushing organizations out of their comfort zones.
  • Emphasis on continuous improvement, Six Sigma, policy deployment, or other similar tools.
  • In alignment with business strategies and growth plans, develop and implement inventory management processes and procedures to reduce inventories and maximize inventory turns while meeting customer service objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, to lead and to motivate high-performing teams with a collaborative approach.
  • Experience working with external consultants and systems / tools to drive more robust category strategies, RFPs, and successful negotiations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, supply chain or related field.
  • Must have at least eight years of strong strategic and operational procurement leadership experience in food service, food distribution, food ingredients, CPG, or related industry.
  • Must have short shelf life (perishable) food sourcing experience
  • Preferred Master's degree in business or related field.
  • At least five years in a senior management role.
  • Ability to travel regularly within the US to support business needs, up to 25%.
