This full-time position helps facilitate a comprehensive editorial program and assists the acquisitions team in the acquisition of new books published by the University of Missouri Press. Overall, the primary function of this position, under the guidance and with the oversight of the Editor in Chief, is to provide staffing and administrative assistance in the operation of the department and the organization.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced publishing professionals and will help enhance our relationship with the University of Missouri, including specific departments, as well as learn about all aspects of books publishing.

The University of Missouri Press is seeking an administrative assistant reporting to the Editor in Chief (Strat Com Consult Sr). The Communications Assistant is a member of the acquisitions team. This position performs essential clerical tasks and helps the Editor in Chief manage book projects from initial screening and selection through peer review, editorial board approval, and transmittal to production. The position will also perform and coordinate other administrative activities as directed by the supervisor. The position has no supervisory authority.

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist in tracking book projects from submission to production;
  • Prepare and send manuscripts or proposals for peer review;
  • Guide authors to deliver manuscripts that adhere to house style, and with usable illustrations and complete permissions;
  • Prepare accepted manuscripts for transmittal to production;
  • Consult the production manager as needed throughout the production process;
  • Reject proposed book projects inappropriate for our editorial program;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Shift

Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Associate or Bachelor degree in related competency; proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and in Adobe Acrobat.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
