This opportunity is in the Claims Department.

Our Claims department oversees both high-exposure workers' compensation and liability claims. As an unbundled carrier, we work actively with third-party administrators (TPAs) and self-administered accounts to assist in guiding claims to a successful resolution. As an excess and large deductible carrier, the high exposure claims we handle keep our group challenged, but the uniqueness provides plenty of growth opportunities.

Role Description:

In the role of Claims Director (internally known as "Director, Claims"), you will be responsible for handling assigned Excess Workers' Compensation claims from initial assignment to closure as well as supervising Claims Managers and Analysts within region.

Your day-to-day responsibilities as Claims Director will include:

  • Directly or indirectly negotiating claim settlements as well as establishing and updating of reserves within established authority level with direct reporting to VP on settlements over authority limits.
  • Coordinating litigation efforts on claims to include selection of counsel and monitoring of counsel performance in accordance with department litigation guidelines.
  • Communicating with Underwriters regarding problem accounts, large losses, and specific TPA problems.
  • Direct or indirect involvement in the medical management of claims and utilizing Medical Management staff and vendor partners to mitigate medical exposure as needed.
  • Coordinating litigation management efforts on claims to include selection of counsel when appropriate, and the monitoring of counsel performance in accordance with department litigation guidelines.
  • Traveling on an "as needed" basis for claim audits including request for audits by Underwriting, problem accounts, TPAs, or claims with completion of report per department procedures.
  • Monitoring the performance and completion of annual performance appraisals for direct reports, managing the hiring and onboarding/training of new Claims Analyst(s) and Claims Manager(s) as well as coordinating on-going training of direct reports.
