Overview

Under direct supervision this position is responsible for assigned tax compliance duties related to state and local sales/use, property, fuel, excise, and miscellaneous indirect taxes. Assigned tasks may include preparation and filing of tax returns, license applications and information reports, processing tax payments and journal entries and handling inquiries related to company vehicles within strict guidelines. As needed, the incumbent may provide support during state or local tax audits and coordinate the receipt and/or distribution of tax exemption documents to support tax exempt sale or purchase transactions. The ability to learn and understand tax specific software applications is desired and is required for some positions. May be required to communicate with company personnel, customers or vendors to obtain tax data and transaction information. Typically requires a high school diploma and 1+ years' experience in business or accounting office environment. **The Tax Specialist will need to live driving distance to the Liberty, MO office as they will periodically work in the office to take care of certain tasks on site.**

Responsibilities
  • Completes state and local tax compliance tasks which includes processing bills, preparing returns, maintaining files, handling correspondence and utilizing tax specific software applications.
  • Ability to understand tax return filing requirements for assigned returns and obtain the information needed to complete the return in order to timely file and pay the tax liability.
  • Responsible for tabulating mileage and fuel data for company vehicles, verifying/processing exemption certificates and providing support during Federal, State and/or local tax audits.
  • Assists in ensuring the company remains compliant with tax return filings and state payment requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must live within driving distance from the LIberty, MO office.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1+ year of experience in a business or accounting office environment.
  • Business tax compliance knowledge a plus.
  • Ability to understand tax filing processes, procedures and terminology.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office software knowledge, with emphasis using Excel.
  • Strong PC skills, Microsoft Office application (Excel, Word and Outlook) experience.
  • Ability to learn tax specific software applications and analyze data for reasonableness and accuracy.
  • Problem solver with strong attention to detail.
  • Working in a group environment with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Must be a Citizen or National of the United States, a lawful, permanent resident, or have authorization to work in the United States
