Job Description

Job Summary & Essential Functions:

Responsible for the efficient operation of a section or depart of the repair shop. Supervise and coordinate activities of hourly employees involved in car repair and car maintenance operations including production methods and processes and proper use of materials, tools and equipment.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Review car work orders to assure all AAR and AITX procedures are followed throughout the repair process
  • Coordinate hourly employees to assure car repair timelines are followed and all repair activities are completed as efficiently as possible
  • Monitor work in process to assure quality and time standards are being met for all car repairs
  • Assist Production Manager in resolving personnel problems, advising in disciplinary proceedings; conduct grievance hearings and safety meetings
  • Recommend and implement improvements in production methods, machines and equipment, maintenance, safety and working conditions; conduct required training sessions for new processes and equipment

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability utilizing problem-solving skills, within a production environment, preferred
  • Must have excellent organizational skills with a detailed- and process-oriented approach
  • Must have the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of management & subject matter experts
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Personnel development and team buildingskills including conflict management, skill assessment, effective delegation and job rotation
  • Knowledge of repair operations includingsafety, quality, productivity, inventory management, equipment reliability,scheduling, shift staffing, and environmental compliance

Required Experience / Education / Training / Certifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is desired
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the railcar repair industry
  • Past experience as a supervisor is preferred
  • A solid background and experience in the railroad industry, technical expertise, strong problem solving skills, and good communication skills are highly valued and is preferred

Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required:

  • The environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid and dusty conditions
  • Employees are required to use personal protective equipment as environmental conditions dictate
  • Required personal protective equipment for task must be worn at all times
