All About You

The Department of Health and Clinical Outcomes at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine invite applications for a full-time, twelve-month faculty position specializing in Health Data Science and Outcomes Research. The position will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor / Associate Professor with responsibilities to advance education and research in clinical and population health. Applicants should have an established track record of funded research or demonstrate strong potential for acquiring external funding. Preference will be given to applicants with research experience relevant to database development, data mining in large healthcare databases, electronic medical records, natural language processing, or comparative effectiveness. The successful candidate will be responsible for collaborating and advancing the data science and outcomes research infrastructure at the School of Medicine, maintaining a funded, innovative research program, and contributing to the educational mission of the organization. Opportunities exist for collaboration with clinical and research faculty across the health sciences including an appointment within the Advanced Health Data (AHEAD) Research Institute.

The applicant should have expertise in data science approaches to population health, health services research or epidemiology. Experience teaching is strongly preferred. Applicants will be expected to develop an independent research program, mentor junior faculty, residents and student researchers and to serve on University committees. Preference will be given to applicants that have demonstrated success in securing external funding and in building collaborative research and teaching environments.

Potential candidates should have a terminal degree in public health, epidemiology, health services research, biostatistics, data science or related fields.

JobDescriptionand Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish a vibrant and productive research program and actively engage in scholarly activities including publishing in peer reviewed journals, dissemination at conferences, and seeking external funding,

  • Develop, deliver, and assess graduate-level courses that maintain and enhance the current program in health data science,

  • Create inclusive, engaging teaching and research experiences to develop socially conscious students and scientists,

  • Mentor junior faculty, residents, undergraduate and graduate students,

  • Participate in departmental, school, university, and professional service activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in public health, epidemiology, health services research, biostatistics, data science, or related fields

  • Teaching experience as demonstrated through previous formal mentoring or teaching

  • Desire to engage with SLU's mission-driven learning and outreach activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent research productivity and demonstrated potential to be a successful researcher,

  • Established record of interdisciplinary collaboration and impactful research work,

  • Demonstrated ability and vision to collaborate and build a multidisciplinary initiative in pursuit of enhancing undergraduate and graduate education.
