Job Description
The Department of Mining and Explosives Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T) in Rolla, Missouri is seeking outstanding applicants to fill the position of Assistant Research Professor, as part of the research expertise in its current U60 research initiative in underground mining emergencies, and future U60 research initiative in automation, robotics, and intelligent systems for workplace safety and health improvements. Applicants must have a PhD degree in Mining, Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or Engineering Management and Systems Engineering, and experience in mentoring graduate students and managing research projects (writing progress reports, keeping schedules, etc.). The ideal candidate should also have research experience that is relevant to the areas outlined above. Competitive salary will be offered based on position rank, qualifications, and experience of the candidate.

The successful candidate will be expected to make strong contributions to the research efforts within the CDC-NIOSH U60 Programs with the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Work under the supervision of the project directors to manage the multi-million-dollar research programs;
  • Produce quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports for CDC-NIOSH per the proposal's requirements;
  • Arrange all major meetings involving researchers, CDC-NIOSH personnel, Industry Research Advisory Board (IRAB) members, and other collaborators;
  • Liaise with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), the Office of Technology Transfer and Economic Development (OTTED) at S&T and New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT), CDC- NIOSH, IRAB, the mining industry, and other relevant organizations;
  • Undertake relevant research to augment the efforts of researchers in the U60 Programs;
  • Publish research results in refereed journals and conference proceedings;
  • Participate in developing competitive research proposals for funding;
  • Assist the principal investigators in mentoring the graduate students involved in the U60 Programs;
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities related to the U60 Programs as directed by the program management team.

The selected candidate will be expected to also teach one or two courses in mining engineering as needed. Samples courses include surface mining methods, underground mining methods, and feasibility studies.
