DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL

Springfield, Missouri

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will assist clients with daily tasks, promote their independence, and help them achieve their personal goals. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and training to clients in their homes and communities, including assistance with personal care, hygiene, and daily living tasks
  • Help clients develop independent living skills, such as meal preparation, housekeeping, and budgeting
  • Assist clients with accessing community resources and participating in social and recreational activities
  • Read and know the content of the current Individual Support Plan (and addendums to ISP) of the client you are working with
  • Document progress and goal achievement in client records, including writing detailed Residential daily notes
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and other support staff, including sharing information and coordinating care
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including completing General Event Reports (GERs) and Incident Reporting Forms as needed
  • Attend meetings and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills, including mandatory training on topics such as CPR, first aid, and medication administration
  • Provide transportation to clients as needed, using a reliable vehicle that meets agency requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned, such as accompanying clients to medical appointments or helping them access community resources

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience in the field of intellectual/developmental disabilities (or successful completion of a Missouri Quality Outcomes training program)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and proof of insurance (if applicable)
  • Pass a background check, including criminal record, driving record, and abuse/neglect registry checks

Work Environment:

  • Work will be performed primarily in clients' homes and communities, with some travel required to access resources and attend meetings
  • May require lifting, transferring, or moving objects up to 50 pounds
  • Will be exposed to a variety of environments, including private homes, public spaces, and outdoor settings
  • Must be able to work varying shifts, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends
