Job Description

This position will oversee grants for Protoplex research centers and contract activities, which includes direct responsibility mainly for post-award functions. The incumbent will assist (supervisor) with the general administration and fiscal oversight of the Protoplex. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the University's growing research enterprise and Manufacture Missouri Ecosystem by supporting the work of the Protoplex.

  • Provide professional support as a primary account administrator for account owners, primarily faculty, in an intensive customer service environment.
  • Award agreement review and setup, prior approvals, re-budgeting, and effort monitoring.
  • Coordinate active grant management activities with the pre-award administrator, including submission of progress reports, non-competing applications, amendments, technical reports, just-in time submissions, no-cost extensions, agency required re-budgeting, carry-over requests, Data Use Agreements, and Material Transfer Agreements.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Programs to facilitate smooth transition throughout the full grant life cycle. Maintain sponsored program records and closeout of sponsored program accounts.
  • Handle straightforward post-award activities including coordinating or monitoring account creations with the Office of Sponsored Programs, regulatory and compliance monitoring, salary allocations, effort reporting, grant projections, cost allocations, cost center charges, equipment inventory, invoice preparation, grant closing process, and account closing.
  • Analyze and prepare budgets, and work with the financial accounting system to allocate, authorize, monitor, and control expenses.
  • Perform financial accounting, including periodic financial projections to faculty, account reconciliations, account closing.
  • Prepare summaries of grants and effort allocations for Principal Investigators, meet with them, and respond to their questions. Coordinate with other departments/units/divisions regarding multi investigator grants. Serve as department contact for annual audits and agency site visits.
  • Advise faculty, program staff, procurement specialists, and other administrators on policies and procedures for fulfilling all aspects of the procurement process including purchasing, internal requisition, and personal and travel reimbursement.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, university, and sponsor policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Manage/Oversee gift and endowment accounts, departmental operating accounts, and faculty unrestricted research accounts.
  • May perform back-up duties during vacation or sick leaves of another team member (post-award or pre-award).
  • Work collaboratively with team members, faculty, students, and sponsors with the capacity to perform assigned tasks independently.
  • Oversee payroll and perform other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience with financial services or sponsored projects
  • Previous experience with systems used to manage grant submissions
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word and Excel
