Summary:

The Senior Director of Data Strategy & Operations leads the strategy and execution of the CRM roadmap, creates solutions that meet the organization's long-term objectives, and addresses the day-to-day needs of the Development department. This role sits at the intersection between fundraising strategy and data management/execution. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable navigating the nitty-gritty details of a relational database as they are articulating to leadership how the database and donor data can be leveraged to implement a new fundraising initiative. This position involves a mix of strategic planning, data analysis/reporting, quality control, internal and external stakeholder customer service and oversight of back-end development operations. The Senior Director oversees a team of ten that are responsible for transforming data into actionable outputs that fuel fundraising strategies. The same team is also responsible for ongoing data management, business process improvements, and oversite of the database technology, architecture and system health.

This remote-based position (which requires travel, as described below) is open to all candidates based within the United States. Prefernce will be given to candidates based within commuting distance of New York City, who will be required to commute to our New York City 8th Avenue office once a week.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

DatabaseStrategy (25%)

  • Create and manage the implementation of the CRM database roadmap, serving as the organization's CRM subject matter expert on the architecture of Salesforce and the Azure warehouse, along with query tools such as Demand Tools.
  • Identify and implement external solutions and integrations that complement the overall CRM strategy (ex: APIs and ETL tool), address large data volume challenges, increase efficiency and accuracy of database operations, and improve donor stewardship efforts.
  • Take a lead role in back-end operations of inbound call center by providing technical expertise on Salesforce, extensive knowledge of business processes within the Membership department, and collaboration with APSCA Midwest Office and external vendors.
  • Lead the development of ASPCA's Master Data Management (MDM) strategy; working with internal constituents and external consultants to define goals, manage project deliverables, and formulate a multi-phase plan for implementation.
  • Responsible for oversight and data governance of ASPCA's donor database of record, storage limitation management/solutions, and strategies to accommodate Development department fundraising strategies such as annual giving, major giving, corporate giving and expanded sustainer payment method options.

Data Management (25%)

  • Oversee team that supports the fundraising efforts of the Development department, including Membership, Philanthropy and Strategic Corporate Partnerships teams, through complex queries, campaign analysis, data hygiene, CRM system management and record updates for the 7 million+ donor accounts within ASPCA's database of record and data warehouse.
  • Manage external partners including Salesforce, round Corner (NGOC), Informatica, and caging facility (Merkle) to maintain current database structure, identify areas of process improvement, and trouble-shoot/resolve issues.
  • Represent ASPCA at national conferences, advisory groups, and benchmark studies; advocate on behalf of the organization with external partners to incorporate changes beneficial to the ASPCA in future technological product releases.

Collaboration (20%)

  • Partner with organizational stakeholders to drive process improvements, identify the root cause of issues, and provide actionable solutions.
  • Advise Membership teams on fundraising strategies, data trends, and campaign analysis to achieve annual budget and donor goals.
  • Work closely with the Finance Department on an ongoing basis to improve and automate the monthly bank reconciliation process and provide extensive support for the annual external audit.
  • Support IT and Internal Audit Departments on PCI compliance, data breach protocols, and risk assessments.

Team Management (30%)

  • Supervise, coach and develop the Data Strategy and Operations Team and any future additional direct reports.
  • Identify current and future training and growth opportunities for direct reports and the larger team.
  • Conduct quarterly feedback sessions and yearly performance review for direct reports.
  • Focus on developing team members' soft and hard skills with a goal of elevating performance through active, actionable feedback

Qualifications:

  • Experience working as an Enterprise client with Salesforce in the NGOC or NPSP environment; understanding of data warehouse architecture.
  • Understanding of SQL/mySQL, BI Tools, and ETL Tools, ability to interpret, edit and write complex SQL/mySQL queries highly preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft BI and/or Informatica MDM systems a plus
  • Project management experience desired, including demonstrated ability to identify and overcome obstacles, meet multiple deadlines, foster relationships and communicate effectively with colleagues and external contacts.
  • Previous experience working with large-scale direct response marketing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively in a dynamic organizational environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Results-driven and strong attention to detail.

Compensation and Benefits

The applicable target hiring range for this remote role is based on where the employee works, which for remote roles is the employee's primary location of residence, and its respective cost of labor. We have organized the U.S. varying costs of labor index into three geographic zones. As a point of reference, below, we have included our ASPCA locations by geographic zone to illustrate what the hiring range would be in each of the following areas.

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring rangeis for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience.The expected hiringsalary ranges for this role are set forth below and may be modified in the future.

  • Zone 1 (For example, Asheville, NC; Champaign, IL; Columbus, OH; Gainesville, FL; Miami, FL; Oklahoma City, OK; Overland, KS; Union, MO; Weaverville, NC): $130,000 - $140,000 annually
  • Zone 2 (For example, Washington D.C.; Los Angeles, CA): $145,000 - $156,000 annually
  • Zone 3 (For example, New York, NY): $159,000 - $171,000 annually

10+ years of professional experience, 4+ years working with large and complex fundraising programs, 4+ years working with large donor data sets, 5+ years of supervisory experience required, Bachelor's Degree or equivalent relevant experience required, Experience with multi-channel fundraising preferred, Experience working as an Enterprise client with Salesforce in the Non Governmental Organization Coalition (NGOC) or Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) environment, Experience working in non-profit environment preferred, or experience working with non-profit organizations, Master's Degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, Fundraising Management, Public Administration, or other related field preferred, Proven experience managing large data volume CRM strategy in a nonprofit setting strongly preferred
