JOB SUMMARY

In accordance with agency Mission, Vision, Values and Goals the Crisis Response Clinician is the primary point of contact in the coordination of services for individuals with behavioral health needs who have come to the attention of law enforcement officials. The Crisis Response Clinician is responsible for ensuring these identified individuals are provided opportunity to access recommended treatment services and assists in the process as needed.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Collaborates with local police departments. Co-located in designated police departments to allow timely response in assisting law enforcement officials.
  • Completes screenings, crisis assessments/interventions and other clinical services in the community for individuals with behavioral health needs.
  • Assists law enforcement and the courts in locating inpatient psychiatric beds for court ordered involuntary detentions and in filing petitions for involuntary detention with the probate court for those individuals that present a likelihood of serious harm due to a behavioral health illness.
  • Acts as a primary point of contact. Participates in local law enforcement Crisis Intervention Teams or other initiatives that assist law enforcement in dealing with individuals with behavioral health needs.
  • Coordinates services and develops local systems of care for individuals with behavioral health needs who have come to the attention of law enforcement officials and maintains good relationships with those local systems of care.
  • Completes crisis assessment and/or intake assessment on sight at jail facilities as requested by the police departments for individuals in crisis or in need of engaging in services.
  • Ensures that individuals are able to access treatment services that are recommended and assists with this as needed.
  • Provides brief therapeutic intervention to promote stabilization and/or assigns next day follow up services when appropriate.
  • Coordinates and reports appropriate information to assigned service providers for those individuals that may already be active in services.
  • Provides and/or coordinates training and consultation on behavioral health issues for law enforcement officers and agencies as needed and as requested.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with local partners in Mental Health Courts or other specialty or diversion courts dealing with behavioral health issues.
  • Maintains good communication with all agency service areas, referral sources, and emergency systems to ensure efficient transfers, referral, and quality care for clients.
  • Provides brief clinical interventions to law enforcement officers as needed and refers officers to appropriate behavioral health resources as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
  • Minimum of one-year experience working in the behavioral health field. Experience in working with law enforcement is preferred.
  • Valid drivers license & auto insurance
  • Ability to interact and work within the police environment and culture
